Desert Regional Medical Center is a 385 bed acute-care hospital classified as a stroke receiving center and level 2 trauma facility with an innovative , patient centered and evidence-based Rehabilitation Services Department. Our compassionate team provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services, including acute care rehabilitation, joint replacement & spinal surgery, neurosurgery, ICU, Telemetry, step-down care, skilled nursing, as well as outpatient therapy, hand and lymphedema clinics.
GENERAL DUTIES:
This position fulfills regulatory requirements set on both a federal and local level. Responsible for designing and maintaining the department�s quality assurance program related to radiation safety, linear accelerator calibrations and performance, radioactive materials calibration and maintenance, three-dimensional treatment planning accuracy and performance, and monitoring the performance of peers and subordinates. In addition, responsible also for the commissioning and acceptance testing of new equipment and technical procedures, participating in peer review and keeping current on current and future technological developments within the field.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Provide technical expertise when consulting with physicians, physicists and Dosimetrist.
- Calibrate and maintain linear accelerators.
- Perform various administrative functions.
- Calibrate and maintain brachytherapy program.
- Perform treatment planning and quality assurance on 3-dimensional computer treatment planning system.
- Keep up-to-date in the professional literature regarding current techniques and new procedures.
- Perform peer and subordinate review.
- Perform and participate in research activities.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Inside contacts consist of multiples physicians for primary consultation regarding optimal methods of patient treatment on a daily basis. Outside contacts consist of department manager, medical physicist colleagues, vendor support and service engineers and Varian service engineers on a weekly to daily basis for performance issues, technical issues and dissemination and receipt of information.
MAJOR CHALLENGES
� Improving and expanding 3-dimensional treatment planning system
� Keeping the department�s aging linear accelerators up and running within the acceptable parameters.
� Remain knowledgeable regarding current procedures in a rapidly changing field.
Qualifications:POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
� Complies with regulatory requirements (i.e. TJC) appropriate for position
� A Master�s of Science Degree in Medical Physics from an AAPM Accredited Graduate Program
� Analytical and problem solving skills
� Board certification by the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Radiological Physics
� Strong communications and interpersonal skills
