The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) within the acute Mental Health unit provides care to our Veterans in need of acute short stay mental health treatment. The LPN will maintain acceptable standards of practice within a health care setting under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse or physician. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will be accountable for ensuring the delivery of safe nursing care for a group of patients based on their role in the nursing process, taking into consideration each patient's developmental stage, progressing from young adult to geriatric stage. The incumbent is expected to comply with all mandated annual review requirements, rotate to clinical areas as assigned and take responsibility for attending in-services and continuing education. Job duties may include administering medications, educational groups, providing one to one care at times, patient count, ADLs, and helping ensure the safety of the Veterans while providing optimal care. Mental health experience is preferred. The Practical Nurse receives written assignments and verbal instructions from the registered nurse. The employee is expected to carry out the assignment without further direction unless unusual or unforeseen problems arise. The Nurse Manager evaluates work performance, reviews work performance with employee and makes recommendations as appropriate. The Practical Nurse performs assigned duties with periodic supervision by the nurse. The Practical Nurse works under the supervision of the registered nurse. The Practical Nurse receives written and verbal assignments from the registered nurse. Performs patient care without detailed instructions. The Practical Nurse usually functions independently with minimal supervision. Seeks guidance and direction when unsure of functions to be accomplished. Work Schedule: Full Time, 5:45pm - 6:15am Rotating Weekends, Holidays and Off Tours. Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
