The Therapy Assistant position is located in the occupational and physical therapy clinics within the Black Hills Health Care System in Fort Meade, SD. The incumbent provides logistical and administrative support for special programming within the rehabilitation services department. Major Duties include, but are not limited to: Clinical Support Duties: Assists in the fitting, training, transport and issue of ADL devices and ambulation aids provided by the occupational and physical therapy staff. Assists therapists and assists with patient exercise treatments and modality treatments as needed. Utilizes computer based electronic patient medical records, communications and correspondences. Maintains general care of all equipment utilized in the OT and PT clinics, keeping examination and procedure rooms clean and stocked. Chaperones pelvic Floor Physical Therapist staff and Lymphedema Therapist as needed. Coordinates, supervise sand oversees veteran outpatient exercise gym program at Fort Meade Campus. Coordinates with Mental Health staff to supervise craft/activity group for inpatient mental health unit at Fort Meade campus. Performs other duties as assigned in support of clinic staff in occupational and physical therapy. Administrative Duties: Assists OT/PT supervisors in the ordering and maintenance of supplies and equipment in the occupational and physical therapy departments. Assists in the proper routing of clinic patients. Possibly facilitates the re-scheduling of patients who cancel or miss appointments as directed. Assists in the training of OT and PT intern students or other trainees at the clinic, when applicable. Returns patient inquiries, addresses patient requests and concerns (in person, phone calls, my healthy vet messages) and documents in the computerized record system.
