Staff audiologists must demonstrate professional knowledge of, and skill in applying a wide range of theories, principles, and methodologies of the practice of audiology to a wide range of populations. Individuals may perform ancillary assignments, including program management duties on an occasional basis. This position is at the Evansville Health Care Center as part of the Marion, IL VA Medical Center. The staff audiologist conducts diagnostic assessment, planning, organizing and conducting a rehabilitative program, training consultation and other related functions. The incumbent develops diagnostic and therapeutic programs for the patient, conducts evaluations leading to the decisions regarding compensation claims, hearing aid selection, and dispensing. The incumbent conducts interviews with patients and/or appropriate family members. Measure acoustical characteristics of environment. Utilizes knowledge of resources, relationship between resources available and patient needs, collects and analyzes data used in preparing recurring and special reports. Identifies and evaluates individuals with hearing disorders in the reception and perception of speech, language, and other acoustic signals. Administers the full range of tests including the testing of vestibular nerve function and electro physiological testing to rule out possible retrocochlear disorders; evaluates the type and degree of hearing loss for patients who are normally unable to provide consistent and reliable reaction to diagnostics. The incumbent is responsible for direct services of a remedial and sometimes preventive nature.
