The Greater Los Angles Healthcare Network is recruiting for four (4) Peer Specialists positions for the Community Engagement and Reintegration Service (CERS). The positions are located at the West Los Angeles Healthcare Center (WLA), and the Sepulveda Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC). The Peer Specialist is an interdisciplinary team member, assisting physicians and other professional/non-professional personnel in a rehabilitation treatment program. The Peer Specialist functions as a role model to Veterans, exhibiting competency in personal recovery, use of coping skills, serves as an advocate, and provides peer support for Veterans in outpatient, inpatient, and/or community settings. Duties may include, but are not limited to: Provides and advocates for effective wellness and holistic recovery-based services that aid Veterans in daily living. Serves as liaison to community-based organizations to develop and/or foster Veterans' community integration, natural supports, and self-reliant strategies. Assists Veterans in identifying their skills, strengths, supports, and resources needed to aid them in achieving their recovery goals. Utilizes recovery tools to coach Veterans on relevant skills needed for self-management of their health condition(s) and pursuit of their personal wellness. Assist Veterans in building social skills in the community that enhance community reintegration, using techniques such as role playing and social skills training. Identifies signs and symptoms of mental illnesses (i.e., auditory and visual hallucinations, aggressive talk and behavior, thoughts of self-harm or harm towards others, isolation) and the ability to assist the Veteran to address symptoms using strategies. Teaches and models the value of every individual's recovery experience. Utilizes individual and group meetings to teach Veterans how to identify and combat negative self-talk and overcome fears by providing a forum that allows Veteran to share their experiences. Assist Veterans in developing empowerment skills, identifying strengths, and combating stigma through self-advocacy. Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level. Work Schedule: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
