| This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. The Nationally Designated Clinical Resource Hub (ND-CRH) Psychiatrist functions as a physician member of an interdisciplinary team consisting of mid-level providers, therapists, clinical pharmacy specialists, case/care managers and/or addiction therapists most often as a member of the spoke site or Hub behavioral health interdisciplinary program team (BHIP). The ND-CRH Psychiatrist may assume the role of primary provider, team provider or consultant depending on the Hub care model. The incumbent may conduct psychiatric evaluations, develop treatment plans, implement treatment, and provide clinical management for a variety of complex mental health conditions, including, but not limited to: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), substance abuse, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, psychosis, and other related conditions. Treatment planning focuses on utilization of pharmacological, psychotherapeutic and technological interventions as well as appropriate referral for additional studies and/or for adjunctive psychosocial interventions. Treatment planning also involves informing patients of risks, benefits, and alternative treatments and answering all questions. Incumbent will provide consultation to veterans' families/caregivers as well as mid-level providers and other professional staff on the assessment, education, and treatment of veterans with complex clinical problems as appropriate. Position requires a working knowledge of advanced psychopharmacology, substance abuse treatment, psychotherapy and telehealth technologies. The incumbent selects appropriate treatment from a variety of resources and clinical approaches including non-directive and cognitive behavioral therapy, behavior modification, insight-oriented methods, family therapy, relaxation training, medication management, etc. Ongoing treatment involves monitoring for effectiveness and adverse effects with the goal of full symptom remission, may perform psychiatrist on-call duties as per other MH psychiatry staff and may provide cross- coverage for other MH services (OP MH, C/L, In-Patient) as the need dictates. Incumbent will also support quality improvement initiatives and will attend Hub, Service, prescriber and other meetings as appropriate. The incumbent will take training and participate actively in systems re- design activities and projects within the context of continuous process improvement. In addition to the roles and responsibilities above, the ND-CRH Psychiatrist is expected to have or develop competency in assigned telehealth equipment and utilization to deliver care to VA owned or leased sites and non-VA sites to include the patients home as appropriate. Additionally, the incumbent will be familiar with available mental health pertinent VA/DoD mobile applications and websites so appropriate recommendations or instruction can be included in or utilized as part of the Veteran's mental health treatment plan. Psychiatrist are expected to have strong communication skills. The ND-CRH psychiatrist will provide services primarily via telehealth technologies but occasional in-person care may be required under certain circumstances. The psychiatrist position will be based out of a fully or partially consolidated ND-CRH or via telework from another VA facility, VA leased space or other US location (e.g. provider's home) per agency/organization policy. This position may require occasional travel or in-person care. CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES Perform duties as a practitioner and consultant in Psychiatry within a variety of clinical settings. May provide inpatient services, partial hospitalization services, intensive outpatient services, routine outpatient services, consultation/liaison and/or to disaster response locations. Responsible for performing the full range of consultation, evaluation and treatment of emergency, complex and routine cases in the field of Psychiatry for a variety of emotional, psychological, and behavioral disorders. Prepared to provide various treatment therapeutics including medication management, individual, marital and group psychotherapies as indicated. Provide therapeutic interventions beyond the individual Veteran to include family psychotherapy and caregiver stress support as indicated and appropriate. Exercise initiative and sound judgment in establishing evaluation techniques, developing treatment and rehabilitation plans and providing appropriate therapeutic treatment services. EDUCATIONAL/ACADEMIC/TEACHING/TRAINING Provide education regarding connected care services including web resources and mobile applications to patients and medical staff. Attends and actively participates in mental health activities (i.e., staff development, residency conferences).
