Sunnyview Hospital has a long history of rehabilitation research and currently has active studies involving stroke (high intensity gait training, treatment of unilateral spatial neglect, impact of functional electrical stimulation), traumatic brain injury (post-concussion syndrome in students, lighting modification on brain injury unit, body weight supported treadmill training), spinal cord (benefits of bionic exoskeleton), cardiopulmonary (health literacy /medication management, impact of expectations on outcomes, comparison of sternal precaution methods), and COVID (rehabilitation outcomes).

 

Responsibilities:

  • Management of the Research Institute, including prioritization, coordination, implementation and evaluation of research activities while also supporting clinician research projects.
  • Ensuring that all research conducted by Sunnyview staff meets standards for ethical research, consistent with SPHP Mission and Core Values and ensures IRB compliance of all projects, including documentation to ensure every project is audit ready.
  • Conduct their own research and to seek grants to continue support of the Research Institution.
  • Collaborate internally within SPHP and externally with other institutions to participate in multisite research.
  • Demonstrate the organization’s commitment to sound ethical business practices as directed by the Corporate Compliance Office and approved by the Board of Trustees.
  • Ensuring that all research conducted by Sunnyview staff meets standards for ethical research, consistent with SPHP Mission and Core Values and ensures IRB compliance of all projects, including documentation to ensure every project is audit ready.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical research experience and working knowledge of the field of rehabilitation medicine.
  • Prior experience as a research director or associate/assistant research director is preferred.
  • The Director should have no fewer than 5 publications in the field and a track record of successful grant writing.  
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • The Director must demonstrate the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with nursing colleagues therapists, physicians as well as other healthcare professionals and administrators.
