The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a researcher with experience in traumatic brain injury (TBI) research. This is a full time faculty position. Appointment rank and tenure will be at a level consistent with the applicant’s accomplishments and will include the expectation of current or transition to independent funding. Leadership as a principle investigator of a research program that includes neurorehabilitation interventions and outcomes research related to traumatic brain injury (TBI) is strongly preferred. The UAB Department of PM&R has a recognized program in TBI research that warrants expansion given the number of trauma cases seen at this Level 1 Trauma Center and the impact of TBI on the lives of our patients. Funding sources for TBI research activities in our department have included NIH, CDC, NIDRR, and DOD. The UAB TBI Model System program has been continuously funded since 1998, with one of the largest enrollments of TBI cases of any center. We offer excellent opportunities to form interdisciplinary research collaborations with basic and clinician scientists.
The successful candidate will participate in teaching residents, medical students, and/or graduate students in neuroscience and clinical psychology specialty programs through didactic teaching and research mentoring. Participation in thesis and dissertation research is anticipated. Excellent administrative skills regarding management of grant funding and personnel are required, as is a demonstrated ability to foster collaborative relationships.
