The VA Northern California VA Health Care System (VANCHCS) is seeking a Chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) to join the Chief of Staff and the Executive Leadership team in leading the Health Care System in fulfilling its mission as a leader in Veteran’s health care. The Chief of PM&R will be organized and dynamic, with the responsibility for overseeing the planning, developing, coordinating, directing, and evaluating of the immediate and future organization needs of the service.
The Chief of PM&R will directly oversee our PM&R, pain and chiropractic physicians, as well as physical therapy, occupational therapy and recreation therapy sections through section chiefs. Our PM&R staff of roughly 100 are located at multiple sites of care over a 40,000 sq. mile area of Northern California. Main sites of care include the Sacramento VA Medical Center (a level I-B acute care facility), the Martinez VA ASC (and Outpatient Clinics, with a CARF accredited inpatient rehabilitation unit and 120-bed SNF/Community Living Center), and the USAF David Grant Medical Center (Travis AFB). Additionally, care is provided at 10 Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) throughout the Northern California region, from the East Bay to the Oregon border.
We are affiliated with the Department of PM&R at the University of California, Davis Health (UCDH). The selected candidate may be eligible to receive a clinical appointment commensurate with their academic experience.
Qualified candidates will be seasoned clinicians who demonstrate extensive and progressive leadership experience, both as a clinician and an administrator and possess the ability to promote innovation, inspire organizational excellence, be able to build teams, and coach clinical leaders as they work toward common goals. Exceptional interpersonal skills, as well as operational and financial skills are essential. The successful candidate must have the ability to meet VA established performance measure goals, and possess a thorough knowledge of the standards of the Veterans Health Administration and other accrediting bodies. The Chief of PM&R should possess the ability to promote innovation and lean management, be able to lead others and inspire organizational excellence.
No on-call at present time. The successful candidate will be expected to travel on occasion on site visits to the outlying clinics where PM&R services are provided.
Candidate must be: 1) US Citizen, 2) Board Eligible/Certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and 3) Have full, unrestricted medical license in any state.
Relocation expenses may be paid, and Relocation/Retention incentives may be authorized.
Additional Salary Information: BENEFITS: •208 hours (5.2 weeks) paid vacation (full-time physicians earn 8 hours each pay period upon employment/part-time physicians earn 1 hour of vacation leave for every 10 hours worked). Vacation Leave may be rolled over up to 685 hours.
•104 hours (2.6 weeks) paid sick leave (full-time physicians earn 4 hours pay period upon employment, no cap) /part-time physicians earn 1 hour of sick leave for every 20 hours worked). Sick Leave may be rolled over without a cap.
•10 paid Federal holidays (any time clinics are closed you get time-off with pay and does not come out of paid vacation)
•Competitive Annual Salary (Comprised of Base Pay + Market Pay)
•Base Pay = based on time in service, start at Grade 15/Step 1 with increase every 2yrs
•Market Pay = reviewed biennially for possible increase/not in line with base pay increase
•Annual Physician Performance Pay
•Malpractice protection with tail coverage covered by the Federal government
•CME- 1 week paid authorized absence to attend and after 1 year of employment $1,000 per year stipend toward CME if BC (does not come out of paid vacation/time is pro-rated for part-time staff)
•No Physician Employment Contract; no significant restriction on moonlighting
