Position Information

The South Texas VA Healthcare System (STVAHCS) is actively recruiting to fill Board Certified Staff Physiatrist (BE considered) to help care for our Veterans – American’s Heroes.  Selected candidate will be considered for a faculty appointment at the UT Health San Antonio (UTHSA) & be involved with education & teaching of PM&R residents in our residency program plus medical students, medicine residents & other providers. The STVAHCS is located at San Antonio is the “Flagship” for the South Texas VA Health Care System (STVAHCS), is a Joint Commission accredited, referral level 1b/high complexity, 268 bed facility serving more than 97,000 Veterans in southern Texas, including the rapidly expanding metropolitan San Antonio area. The Physiatrist will be responsible for providing professional clinical services to Veterans in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service. This position is under the direct administrative supervision of the Section Chief of PM&R within the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service. We provide high quality Service for our Veterans by placing an emphasis on therapeutic excellence, and a multi-disciplinary approach to care. The incumbent will participate as assigned in patient care, teaching, and administrative activities of the Service.  We seek a full-time board-certified/board Eligible Physiatrist preferably with interest in musculoskeletal medicine and electrodiagnosis. This position would primarily support outpatient services for patients with subacute and chronic MSK conditions such as spinal and peripheral joint pain. We work closely with interventional pain management who performs spinal injections. Knowledge of peripheral joint injections is expected.We are outfitted with state-of the-art equipment and space, EMG machines, ultrasound machines, full complement of staff and opportunity for training as well. The recruited Physiatrist will be part of the teaching faculty for our PM&R residency program. Physiatrist should be competent to perform injection techniques.  The requirements for the incumbent will include teaching and preceptor responsibilities for the PM&R residency program (in affiliation with UT Health San Antonio) and participation in residency and hospital committees as assigned.

Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, (May be required to work evenings or weekends as a 24/7 Full-Time Physician).

• Must be U.S. Citizen – Non-US Citizens may be considered
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
• Board Certification in Physiatry preferred, but Board Eligibility may also be considered
