Works under the direction and supervision of a licensed physical therapist to aid in the total rehabilitation of the patient via use of various modalities, therapeutic exercise, gait training, and functional activities. Treats and cares for patients of all ages.
Reports directly to the Supervisor of Rehabilitation or the Senior Outpatient Therapist.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
Demonstrated ability to comprehend, speak, and write the English language.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduate of an American Physical Therapy Association approved curriculum with an AS in a Physical Therapy Assistant Program required.
Must be licensed or eligible for licensure by the state board of Physical Therapy for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Experience treating patients of all ages for most orthopedic and neurological diagnoses preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Performs medium daily work with sporadic heavy lifting, as this is a direct patient care position. Must be able to climb (especially stairs and ramps) and guard/assist patients while climbing stairs/ramps. Other physical abilities that are imperative include balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, fingering, talking, and hearing. Must have good depth perception to adequately perform the described.
Must be able to work indoors and outdoors, in patients rooms, therapy gyms, occasionally in patients home, and in the community. Must be able to work with electrical equipment such as modality equipment. May be exposed to environmental hazards, infectious diseases, chemical agents (see MSDS), sharp objects, fluctuating noise levels, disagreeable odors, frequent interruptions, and agitated or emotionally distraught patients and families.
