About The Ridge:
The Ridge Behavioral Health System is seeking a dynamic and talented Mental Health Technician Milieu Specialist. Located in Lexington, KY, the heart of the Bluegrass, The Ridge Behavioral Health System offers a healing environment that is reassuring to a patients' sense of security and confidentiality. Dedicated to excellence, The Ridge Behavioral Health System is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, as a licensed, 110-bed hospital, providing psychiatric (mental health) and chemical dependency (drug & alcohol rehabilitation) services to children, adolescents and adults. Inpatient care is provided on a 24-hour basis, seven days a week. Outpatient and partial hospitalization services are provided on a six-day per week basis, days and evenings. Leads and mentors unit staff in providing routine non-acute physical care for the patient, to include safe management of patients during all activities of daily living, in group educational program settings, and during periods of potential crisis. Is attuned to all components of the milieu and its effect on the therapeutic environment (light, sound, temperature, movement, hunger, number of patients, sensory input, etc.) and is able to teach methods to ameliorate negative consequences. Provides guidance to staff via precepting and individual or group training, based on needs identified in the Master Treatment Plan for individual patients.

Is the identified Milieu Specialist on the unit, a mentor and resource for all staff
Effectively establishes rapport with patients and families by adhering to the therapeutic boundaries policy.
Adheres to the unit's program philosophy and schedule.
Mentors & guides other staff on the unit to milieu management processes, cues them to interventions proactively utilized on the unit to maintain a positive milieu at all times.
Is able to be directive with staff when inappropriate interventions are observed, teaches them milieu management techniques, guiding them toward interventions that usually have better outcomes
Provides clear and correct information to callers, visitors, and coworkers.
Completes assignments such as:chart filing, compiling chart binder, and maintaining chart order.
Models assertive and respectful behavior.
Applies natural and logical consequences. Addresses individual patients when inappropriate language or behavior occurs with consistent consequences in a respectful, non-punitive manner.
Applies basic limit setting with patients per CPI guidelines.
Adheres to unit schedule when intervening with patients.
Adheres to the unit's level system when intervening with patients.
Consistently implements handbook & unit rules when intervening with patients.
Ensures regular attendance & participation in program activities.
Orients new admissions to the unit, rules, schedule, level system, and the staff they will work with.
Consistently shares observations regarding specific behaviors, milieu concerns, & other relevant factors with other unit staff.
Facilitates group activities tailored to the appropriate topic, age, and level of understanding as approved by the Program Coordinator.
Assists with activities of daily living (ADL) as assigned.
Ensures patients are consistently monitored in the proper location for the duration of activities.
High risk behavior precautions are followed as per facility policy.
Supports the enhancement of a patient's self-esteem and responds in a therapeutic manner.
Assists with vital signs as assigned; demonstrates correct procedures; reports findings to the nurse.
Follows proper Handle with Care de-escalation techniques when handling crisis situations.
Provides appropriate crisis intervention as necessary by anticipating and responding quickly to escalating behaviors, utilizing de-escalation techniques to diffuse the situation, correctly prioritizing safety concerns.
Uses appropriate counseling skills by de-escalating aggression, using active listening skills, using appropriate tone and volume of voice, providing a high frequency and variety of positive reinforcements, maintaining appropriate boundaries, and promoting a positive peer culture.
Addresses use of verbal de-escalation & milieu management as first-line interventions at all times, with putting hands on patients being the absolute last resort. Handle With Care used when this occurs.
Demonstrates proper procedures for therapeutic holds and seclusions.
Contraband is properly removed and disposed of according to policy.
Adherence and completion of precaution forms and policies.
Documents group education notes accurately, legible, & reflect accurate information and adhere to documentation protocols and policies.
Precaution forms are completed accurately and concurrently with patient behavior as ordered.Documentation adheres to precautions policy.
Progress notes are current, complete, legible, and reflect accurate objective information and adhere to documentation protocols and policies.
Participates in shift report and accurately reports patient behaviors.
Patient Observation forms are completed timely and are accurate. Hand off of Pt Observations is always done when leaving the unit, at shift change, and at any other time deemed necessary. Mentor others in appropriate process for these at all times, addressing any divergence from approved procedure.
Documents significant developments &/or changes in a patient's behavior or condition promptly to the nurse and other team members as necessary.
Documents & reports incidents immediately and according to policy.
