Reporting to the Crisis Response Center Director, the Staff Psychiatrist is responsible for the medical and psychiatric aspects of evaluating and/or admitting a patient to a level of care within the hospital system, when appropriate. The Staff Psychiatrist directs the referral, when necessary to another treatment facility or system, making sure linkage with that system is timely and appropriate. The Staff Psychiatrist is responsible for the acute treatment needs of the patient in the Crisis Response Center and the medical stabilization of the patient when necessary. The Staff Psychiatrist is responsible for overseeing and/or participating in the precertification process, and ensures the initiation of a treatment plan in accordance with the assigned attending physician.
The Staff Psychiatrist will routinely prepare for and attend court in connection with the involuntary commitment of hospitalized patients. When required, the Staff Psychiatrist may be asked to perform a variety of professional assignments, such as covering for professional staff during vacation, seeing a unit patient as a consultant or in an emergency. In addition, the Staff Psychiatrist will participate in weekend / nighttime coverage of patients on a rotating basis with other Staff Psychiatrists.
